Well that’s a wrap for 2021! While, the sporting Gods may have thrown everything they could at our event this year; from a looming COVID outbreak, a forecast for rain, and even a sink hole!
Despite this, our first year of three at the Gold Coast Performance Centre was a total success. An action-packed 5-day event with over 424 teams, bringing around 6500 junior athletes, coaches, and referees, playing nearly 2000 games on the beautiful Gold Coast, thanks to Major Events Gold Coast.
Off the field, spectators and participants enjoyed giveaways and prizes at the Gold Coast Titans tent and range of delicious fare at vendor city.
The Inferno merchandise tent, as usual, was constantly busy with competitors and spectators keen to snap up the latest merchandise and memorabilia.
Meanwhile, the CSF Pass the Ball competition had some of our schools all fired up with a particularly spirited group of Canterbury under 15 girls deciding then and there, they must beat Cleveland State High’s top score of 11.
After numerous attempts and strategizing sessions, they went on to score a winning 19 passes through the board.
On the field, some spectacular touch footy was played from the smaller schools like Murgon State High School, through to the touch football big guns such as Chancellor and Keebra Park.
Back-to-back champions, The Cathedral College 18 Boys, came away with a grand final win, featuring stellar performances from touch footy superstars, Jardell Bob and Flynn Kelso.
This dynamic duo has enjoyed the sweet taste of victory throughout this year including wins with the 2020 State of Origin (Men’s 20), National Youth Championships (Central Queensland U18 Boys) and 2021 Junior State Cup (Rockhampton U18 Boys) where Bob took home Player of the Series and Kelso awarded the Scott Notley Medal for on and off the field excellence.
When discussing the key difference between Affiliate or Regional competitions vs representing schools, Kelso says:
“…when you play for your school, with mates you see every day, it’s pretty special and to win with them is an awesome feeling.”
These boys are just a few up and coming stars to watch!
