GCTAS Wrap 2024

The Gold Coast Titans All Schools event has concluded for another year and what a year it was. Again, for the fifth consecutive year, we have grown and with 550 teams and over 2000 games of touch football, who can say if we could possibly get any bigger. There were many firsts and none more pleasing than the fact that we had well over 400 active referees, many of whom were student officials from the schools participating. The sustainability of this event is certainly dependent on the commitment of schools in this regard, and we look forward to even more schools driving referee development with their students.

Another notable achievement was, for the first time in many years, the sharing of the spoils meaning a change in the usual winners of our Grand Final titles. For the first time ever in their All Schools history, we had two schools win the coveted title. In the 18s Mixed division, Marist College Emerald, a small central Queensland school of about 600 students, managed to pull off the unexpected and take the title from Benowa State High School 6 – 5. This not only was a massive achievement for Marist, but supports our objective to ensure the Mixed division is contested by schools other than the “Super Schools”.

Continuing with the trend and in just over an hour later, Centenary State High School defeated another ‘newby’ to the finals stage, Iona, 8 – 5. The 18 Boys division has long been fought out amongst Super Schools like TCC, Ignatius Park, Chancellor College, Keebra Park and Cavendish Road, so seeing the final with two new finalists in 2024 was outstanding. The 18 Girls was again won by St Aidan’s (doing a Penrith) making it four in a row. They won 7 – 4 over a gallant and first time 18 Girls finalist, Southport SHS. The Junior divisions results also reflected a degree of success by schools who have been around for awhile, but never managing to crack the big one.

  • 13 Boys – The Cathedral 4 defeated Ignatius Park 3
  • 13 Girls – Palm Beach Currumbin 4 defeated Southport SHS 1
  • 15 Boys – Miami SHS 7 defeated Ignatius Park 5
  • 15 Girls – Brisbane SHS 3 defeated All Hallows 2

A sincere well done to every school who participated and didn’t make finals. The finals day is certainly not what this event is about. The fact that so many of you come back every year attests to this fact and we are just as proud of seeing a school win their first game, or make their first Final 16, then seeing our winners have the ultimate success.

There were some changes in the rankings, or “Super Schools” results as calculated on performances across all divisions by a school. In 2024, the top 6 schools were:

  1. The Champion School – The Cathedral College
  2. Keebra Park SHS
  3. Cleveland SHS
  4. Chancellor College
  5. Miami SHS
  6. Centenary SHS
